In this presentation, Dr. Loi explains why he started using vertical preparation and the benefits of this approach, from better control over the shape of the gingival tissues around the prosthesis to more precise management of the emergence profiles.
Furthermore, participants will see how, unlike horizontal preparation, which requires the technician to mill the abutment with specific shapes, vertical preparation allows for directly adapting the gingival contours to the desired shapes.
With this technique, once the healing abutment is removed, it's possible to insert an abutment with the desired shape, ensuring an optimal aesthetic and functional result.
Finally, one of the advantages of using a vertical abutment is the ability to modulate gingival volume and papillary growth without the need for surgical interventions.

Graduated in Medicine and Surgery with a specialization in Odontostomatology and Prosthetic Dentistry from the University of Cagliari, Dr. Ignazio Loi is an Active Member of the Italian Academy of Prosthetic Dentistry.
