This first video lesson aims to introduce participants to the topics that will be addressed throughout the course.
Dr Powell describes the purpose and main steps involved in prosthetic restoration with dental implants.
From pre-surgical planning to the evaluation of systemic and local factors, from impression-taking and implant fabrication and design to insertion protocols, each stage is described and explored thoroughly.
In particular, this lecture covers the following topics:
- The prosthodontic workflow for dental implant restoration
- Different types of implant restorations: single unit, multiple unit, and full-arch
- How to achieve implant stability: length, material, diameter, size, emergence profile, depth, and angulation
- Case selection and treatment planning protocol

Dr. David Powell is devoted to continuing education. He was an assistant professor at the University of Toronto for 3 years, and he regularly gives lectures for dentists seeking to improve their skills in implant prosthodontics. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and a member of the Association of Prosthodontists of Canada and the American College of Prosthodontists. Dr. Powell works in Private Practice at Barrie Dental Specialists and Chrysalis. His practice focuses on prosthetically driven, digitally guided implant procedures, and complex full mouth rehabilitations.
