Giovanni Zucchelli (DDS, PhD) is one of the most authoritative and recognised figures of contemporary periodontal plastic surgery. His soft-tissue treatment protocols are studied and adopted worldwide, and his name is tied to one of the most cited root coverage techniques in the scientific literature.
- Academic career: graduated with honours in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics from the University of Bologna (1988), earned a PhD in Medical Biotechnologies (1999) and held the chair of Periodontology at the same university from 2014 to 2025.
- International recognition: two-time winner of the E. Bud Tarrson Research Award in oral plastic surgery (2006 and 2008) and Honorary Member of the American Academy of Periodontology since 2020.

- The bestseller: the monograph “Mucogingival Esthetic Surgery” (Quintessence Publishing) has been translated into 12 languages and is an international reference for the treatment of gingival esthetic defects.
- The implant sequel: with “Mucogingival Esthetic Surgery around Implants” he extended the approach to peri-implant soft tissues, in a clinical and photographic atlas for surgeons and prosthodontists.
