In this video lecture, Prof. Lodi discusses the risk factors that
a dentist should know to early detect oral cancers.
Particular attention is paid to the relationship between cigarette
smoke and oral cancer, and a series of tools to help patient quit
smoking is presented.
In the second part of this lecture, the specialist discusses the
need to inform people that oral cancer is not a rare disease and
that general dentists also have an increasing need to keep updated
on this important topic due to the increased number of diagnoses in recent years.
In particular, this lesson covers the following topics:
- The relationship between cigarette smoke and the incidence of cancer, oral cancer and death rate
- The negative role of passive smoking in the development of oral cancers
- Other risk factors related to oral cancer (alcohol, inactivity, poor oral hygiene, poor diet)
