What it covers
Lower central incisors represent a critical area for the treatment of gingival recession. The low availability of keratinized tissue and the limited vestibulum depth pose serious questions concerning the use of bilaminar techniques. This case offers a different perspective on the clinical scenario, presenting a laterally shifted flap, coadiuvated with a palatal CTG. The adoption of the laterally moved flap allows to restore the verticality of the vestibulum depth on the element presenting recession, while exploting the CTG as coverage on the adjacent tooth.

Giovanni Zucchelli
Giovanni Zucchelli, DDS, Ph.D. graduated in 1988 from the University of Bologna, Italy with a degree in dentistry. He was Professor of Periodontology and Implantology at the University of Bologna, Italy, from 2000 to 2025. Giovanni Zucchelli received many awards for clinical research in periodontology in Europe and the United States. Innovator of several soft tissue plastic surgical techniques, he is also author of more than 100 publications in Pubmed. He is speaker at major international conferences on periodontology and has taught theoretical and practical (with live surgery) courses in numerous countries. Zucchelli is the author of the book titled, "Mucogingival Esthetic Surgery" best seller from Quintessence Publishing which is published in 10 different languages and co-author of two illustrated textbooks on periodontal plastic surgery (Ed. Martina) and of the chapter "Mucogingival Therapy-Periodontal Plastic Surgery" in Clinical Periodontology and Implant Dentistry (Lindhe J, Lang NP, Karring T [eds], Wiley-Blackwell).
