What it covers
This video potrays the surgical resolution of an extensive peri-implant soft tissue defect on element 21. The fixture appears to be placed too deep, resulting in a buccal soft tissue defect that effects the interproximal papillae as well. The treatment plan sees the careful passivation of the flap, comprising an internal frenulectomy procedure to restore vestibulm depth.
The application of a connective tissue graft harvested from the palate allows to restore the volume of the soft tissue and improve the interproximal papillae. In the video it is also possible to appreciate the way Prof. Giovanni Zucchelli uses his hands while disepitalizing the soft tissue graft.

characterizing the rationale behind periodontal surgery.
Participants will receive a comprehensive and up-to-date training on the latest developments in the surgical management of simple and complex cases with standard and replicable protocols.

Giovanni Zucchelli
Giovanni Zucchelli, DDS, Ph.D. graduated in 1988 from the University of Bologna, Italy with a degree in dentistry. He was Professor of Periodontology and Implantology at the University of Bologna, Italy, from 2000 to 2025. Giovanni Zucchelli received many awards for clinical research in periodontology in Europe and the United States. Innovator of several soft tissue plastic surgical techniques, he is also author of more than 100 publications in Pubmed. He is speaker at major international conferences on periodontology and has taught theoretical and practical (with live surgery) courses in numerous countries. Zucchelli is the author of the book titled, "Mucogingival Esthetic Surgery" best seller from Quintessence Publishing which is published in 10 different languages and co-author of two illustrated textbooks on periodontal plastic surgery (Ed. Martina) and of the chapter "Mucogingival Therapy-Periodontal Plastic Surgery" in Clinical Periodontology and Implant Dentistry (Lindhe J, Lang NP, Karring T [eds], Wiley-Blackwell).
