What it covers
In this first video lecture, the focus of the lecturer will be on the strategies to avoid medical errors and to prevent complications occurrence.
Thanks to this lecture, participants will understand that complications can occur in three different treatment phases: pre, intra and post-surgery.
Here, the pre-surgical phase will be analysed, highlighting those strategies that must necessarily be implemented in order to minimize the risk of complications and errors; the patient’s medical and pharmacological history, diagnosis and prognosis, analysis of systemic diseases and local factors will be discussed in detail.
In particular, this lesson focuses on the following topics:
- Errors in diagnostic and prognostic evaluation leading to the formulation of a failed treatment plan
- The correct preliminary medical examination: systemic diseases, local factors, bad habits and patients’ pharmacological history
- The importance of making a diagnosis based on correct benchmarks
- Errors of prognosis in mucogingival surgery

The instructor
La dott.ssa Stefanini si laurea in Odontoiatria e protesi dentaria con lode nel 2005. Nel 2011 consegue il Master di II livello in Parodontologia presso l’Università di Siena in collaborazione con la SidP. Dal 2012 è socia attiva della SidP (Società Italiana di Parodontologia). Nel 2016 consegue il Dottorato in Scienze mediche e dei Servizi e dal 2018 è Ricercatrice presso l’Università di Bologna dove insegna sia al Corso di Laurea in Odontoiatria e Protesi dentaria che al corso di Laurea in Igiene Dentale. Inoltre, è Vice Responsabile dell’area didattica presso la Clinica Odontoiatrica dell’Università di Bologna, Fellow dell’ International Team of Implantology (ITI), coautrice di pubblicazioni scientifiche su riviste nazionali ed internazionali e relatrice in numerosi congressi in Italia e all’estero.
