What it covers

Protect the pulp-dentin complex by implementing a strict selective etching protocol tailored for deep cervical exposures.

In this lesson, Dr. Bora Korkut addresses the adhesive management of deep cervical lesions, where proximity to the pulp chamber dictates a conservative approach. The clinical focus is on Selective Enamel Etching: Dr. Korkut demonstrates the precise application of phosphoric acid exclusively on the enamel margins, carefully avoiding the dentin. This protocol is essential in deep cavities to prevent post-operative sensitivity and pulpal irritation caused by over-etching thin dentinal walls. The lesson highlights how to maximize marginal seal through enamel conditioning while relying on modern adhesive systems to manage the dentinal substrate safely.

Mastering the selective etch technique in the cervical zone is the most effective way to ensure high bond strength without compromising pulp vitality in deep restorations.

Key topics covered in this lecture:

  • Selective Etch Protocol: Step-by-step enamel conditioning in the cervical third.
  • Pulp Protection: Rationale for avoiding dentin etching in deep cavosurface margins.
  • Adhesive Strategy: Balancing marginal integrity with the prevention of post-operative sensitivity.
  • Contamination Control: Maintaining a clean substrate during the etching phase in subgingival areas.
