Scientific research has shown that 7% of complications 5 years after implant surgery are of an esthetic nature.
In Dr. Meda’s opinion, this fact needs to be treated with caution since the occurrence of such esthetic complications makes retreatment necessary, implying a loss of time and money for the clinician and an increase in stress for the patient.
The first part of this lecture focuses on the strategies to prevent complications by paying particular attention to orthodontically-guided implant placement, also using digital planning softwares.
The second part of this lecture shows how it is now possible to achieve optimal results with FP-1 prostheses even in patients with periodontal disease, whereas years ago it was necessary to perform an FP-3 prosthesis.
In particular, this lecture covers the following topics:
- Implant complications: mechanical, biological, functional and esthetic
- The prevention of esthetic complications: recessions, soft tissue collapse, scarring and other traumas around the emergence profile

The instructor
Dr. Ramon Gómez Meda received his degree in Dentistry from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. He was the recipient of the Thesis Award from the Autonomous Community of Galicia for Academic Excellence. He performed his postgraduate training in Periodontics and Implantology in Madrid, Occlusion and Temporomandibular Dysfunction in Valencia and Orthodontics in Santiago de Compostela. Dr. Gómez Meda is an international speaker on Periodontics, Esthetic Dentistry and Multidisciplinary Treatments. He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor of the Department of Prosthodontics at LSUHSC School of Dentistry (New Orleans, Louisiana, USA). He is the Founder of MEDA Training Center, in Ponferrada with an additional branch location in La Coruña, Spain.
