What it covers

Moderators: Lisa Heitz-Mayfield and Jae-Kook Cha

Presentations included

  • Peri-implantitis: disease or complication? Jan Derks
  • Non-surgical treatment – where are the limits? Mario Romandini
  • When to construct and how Andreas Stavropoulos
  • Prevention by design Nicola Zitzmann

Is peri-implantitis an infectious disease that can be successfully prevented and treated?

This module tackles the management of one of the greatest threats to the stability of your treatments, highlighting the limits of non-surgical therapy and the necessity for a targeted surgical approach.

You will analyze why sub-marginal instrumentation falls short in advanced cases and you will explore surgical protocols for implant surface decontamination.

Finally, we will examine how to eliminate iatrogenic factors and implement reconstructive protocols and prosthetic design rules in your daily practice to minimize the risk of disease recurrence.

Key topics covered
  • Bacterial etiology of peri-implantitis, early diagnosis through probing, and risk factor control.
  • Structural and biological limitations of non-surgical implant decontamination.
  • Combined surgical therapy: decontamination, implantoplasty, and intra-bony defect regeneration.
  • Prevention by design: occlusal and geometric prosthetic rules to facilitate hygiene and avoid biofilm accumulation.
