What it covers
This fifth video lecture introduces the FibRE-ORS technique.
This innovative methodology involves the use of the fibers present
in the most apical part of the tooth to determine the In&Out, i.e.
the position where the cylindrical flat-head drill should be
inserted to bring the bottom of the infrabony defect to the exterior.
In particular, this lesson covers the following topics:
- How to identify the supracrestal connective fiber system underlying the infrabony defect
- How to reduce post-operative sensitivity by using ultrasonic tips to grind the tooth
- What to do when the fibers are inserted into the base of the infrabony defect

The instructor
Giovanni Zucchelli, DDS, Ph.D. graduated in 1988 from the University of Bologna, Italy with a degree in dentistry. He was Professor of Periodontology and Implantology at the University of Bologna, Italy, from 2000 to 2025. Giovanni Zucchelli received many awards for clinical research in periodontology in Europe and the United States. Innovator of several soft tissue plastic surgical techniques, he is also author of more than 100 publications in Pubmed. He is speaker at major international conferences on periodontology and has taught theoretical and practical (with live surgery) courses in numerous countries. Zucchelli is the author of the book titled, "Mucogingival Esthetic Surgery" best seller from Quintessence Publishing which is published in 10 different languages and co-author of two illustrated textbooks on periodontal plastic surgery (Ed. Martina) and of the chapter "Mucogingival Therapy-Periodontal Plastic Surgery" in Clinical Periodontology and Implant Dentistry (Lindhe J, Lang NP, Karring T [eds], Wiley-Blackwell).
