What it covers
Temporomandibular disorders can be divided into conditions affecting the temporomandibular joints (TMJs) and conditions affecting the jaw muscles. This lecture focuses on the etiology, assessment, and possible consequences of muscle disorders.
From an etiological viewpoint, it is reasonable to think that emotional tension leading to prolonged muscle contraction is an important factor to explain the physiopathology of muscle disorders. The combination of factors that interplay to modulate these phenomena is discussed in this lecture.
